ORIENTAL FENG SHUI PLAYGROUND
Oriental Feng Shui Playground is a cross-media design project that translates traditional Feng Shui symbolism into an interactive spatial experience. The work combines 3D modeling, editorial zine design, and a Unity-based VR environment to reframe cultural knowledge through contemporary visual language.

Context
Originally developed in collaboration with a Feng Shui retail context in London’s Chinatown, the project responds to an observed generational gap in engagement. While Feng Shui remains culturally significant, its visual and educational formats often feel distant to younger audiences. This project explores how game mechanics and immersive environments can make traditional spatial principles more accessible and discoverable.
Opportunity
How might immersive media make traditional spatial knowledge more discoverable and engaging?
Design Goal
Translate traditional Feng Shui objects into an explorable visual system that supports discovery through movement and interaction.

Editorial DESIGN

moving From Editorial to VR…
abstract
Within the VR playground, players navigate a stylized architectural landscape and restore fragmented Feng Shui artifacts. As users reposition fallen bricks and reconstruct statues, contextual information surfaces in situ, linking physical interaction with cultural meaning. This interaction model transforms passive reading into embodied exploration.
Challenges & Iterations
balancing clarity vs immersion
maintaining cultural readability
optimizing VR performance
conclusion
Through the integration of editorial systems, voxel-inspired visual forms, and spatial UI cues, the project investigates how graphic and visual design can extend beyond the page into interactive environments, creating new entry points for cultural literacy.
